DXpedition Updates & HF Activity

🌍 DXpeditions & Operations

  • The C93RRC DXpedition (Mozambique) is currently off-air due to generator issues.
  • Multiple DXpeditions and special-event operations are active this week, offering great opportunities across HF bands.
  • A major milestone: 425 DX News recently published its 1,700th issue and continues to provide weekly bulletins for serious DXers.

📡 Contesting Highlights

  • The IARU HF Contest (held July 12–13) featured widespread participation, though propagation was challenging due to increased geomagnetic activity. Still, operators pushed through on 20 m and 15 m with solid DX into South America and Oceania.
  • This Week’s Events (July 16–23): Expect CWops Test sessions, short Mini-Contests on 40 m and 80 m, and VHF/UHF FT8 action. Most notably, the YOTA Contest returns on July 19, running from 10:00–21:59 UTC. Young operators will take to the air on CW and SSB across 80–10 m, competing in categories like Single-Op Youth, Open, and Multi-Op YOTA.

🌤️ Propagation Report

  • Solar flux has been holding steady around 115–120, with quiet geomagnetic conditions outside of minor K-index spikes earlier in the month.
  • Despite midsummer propagation slowdowns, Maximum Usable Frequencies (MUFs) have reached up to 21 MHz on mid-distance paths (~3,000 km). 20 m remains the most stable daytime band, while evening openings on 40 m have been modest but workable.
  • Conditions are expected to improve gradually in late August as we transition into the next seasonal shift.
