🌐 Geomagnetic Activity Overview
Over the past few days, Earth has experienced heightened geomagnetic activity due to a series of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and solar flares. Notably, a G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm was observed on June 2, triggered by a CME impact and intensified by high-speed solar wind streams from coronal holes. This event led to widespread auroral displays at lower latitudes and caused disruptions in radio communications and satellite operations.
📈 Current Conditions
- Kp Index: Currently fluctuating between 4 and 5, indicating unsettled to minor storm conditions.
- Solar Flux Index (SFI): Elevated levels around 160, supporting enhanced propagation on higher HF bands.
- Auroral Activity: Still elevated, with potential visibility at mid-latitudes during nighttime hours.
📡 HF Band Conditions
- 80m & 40m: Nighttime propagation remains stable, with some absorption during peak geomagnetic activity.
- 30m & 20m: Variable conditions; openings are possible but may be short-lived and affected by geomagnetic fluctuations.
- 17m, 15m, 12m, & 10m: Enhanced propagation expected, especially during daylight hours, due to elevated SFI.
🔮 Forecast
Geomagnetic conditions are expected to gradually return to normal levels over the next 24–48 hours. However, continued monitoring is advised as solar activity remains high during the current solar maximum phase.
